Down to Earth Art Gallery will be officially closing it's doors on January 25, 2027. Please join us for the grand opening at 6pm on August 20th. Alan will be in the gallery August 20th, Thursday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00, Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00, and Saturday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00.“I consider Down To Earth Art Gallery, Gerard and Elaine, as more than my number one gallery, I consider them to be my friends. The turtle is a sacred figure in Native American symbolism as it represents Mother Earth. The meaning of the Turtle symbol signifies good health and long life.

The Daily Drum Today I am featuring a “Six-sided Q The Daily Drum
Today I am featuring a “Six-sided Quill Drum”. The intricate art and fine detail the Mi’kmaq Quill decorated boxes were highly sought after, and traded throughout North America and Europe. The Mi’kmaq were often referred to as the “porcupine people” because of their elaborate quill work. The quill work on birch bark was an ancient art that the Mi’kmaq specialized in. The attention to detail and sophisticated patterns made our quill work easily distinguishable compared to other Native quill work.

This image, like many others, has been brought forward from Petroglyph Images which still can be seen in the petroglyphs at Kejimkujik National Park / National Historic Site. Of all the images scribed into the slate, the most common are representations of women, indicating their importance in traditional.
