It is said that the Whale sings the history of Mother Earth. The whale still has a connection to the land as it must surface to breathe. Its songs are about the relationship between the universe and Mother Earth.

Today I am featuring another drum from by “Moose Series”.
The Moose image has appeared in many of my pieces. It represents a very important symbol to our people. It meant survival for the Mi’kmaw people, providing food, clothing and cordage which were all crucial commodities.

Today’s drum we feature my “Eight Pointed Star Drum”. 
The eight-point star is an updated version of the seven-point star; which the Mi’kmaq used to represent the seven districts of their nation. The Mi’kmaq nation grew to eight districts with the addition of Taqmkuk (Newfoundland). And the Mi’kmaq updated the star to eight-points to welcome our brothers and sisters from Newfoundland.

The Mi'kmaq tradition says the eagle is the only bird that has touched the face of the creator. Therefore, we consider their feathers to be sacred. The Eagle has been given the responsibility of carrying the prayers of the people to the Creator.
